Pet spotter guide

Man’s best friend is not always perfect. If you own one of our four legged friends and he comes in your home you need a plan. AAA recommends that you put together an emergency pet tool kit. We do not recommend over the counter cleaners we see a lot of color loss form most of these products.

  1. One gal of white vinegar and water mixture.
  2. An old knife or putty knife.
  3. A couple of clean white rags.
  4. Hydrogen peroxide (get it at the pharmacy)
  5. Gal of pet enzyme. If you life in the Lebanon area we recommend Consume. This can be purchased from Lebanon Chemical Company. It should not be mix any stronger than 4 parts water to 1 part Consume. Pet smart carries some premixed products that I have had some good reports on.
  6. A small fan
  7. The first thing you should know is that you must get your carpet wet. Spraying a solution on top of a pet stain will not help. You must put three times or more the amount of clean liquid on a spot to dilute the solids.

Steps:

  1. Remove any solids with knife
  2. Flood area with vinegar and water. Let it set 5 -10 seconds
  3. Absorb as much up as you can with your clean rag.
  4. Repeat for good measure
  5. Put a fan on the affected area
  6. If and odor is present after drying (24 hours) flood area with enzyme solution and leave wet. You are after the source and that is almost always the carpet pad.
  7. Allow enzyme to dry slowly, I recommend you place a fan after 24 hours if it is still wet.
  8. If you have a yellow stain after all of this put hydrogen peroxide on and leave wet. Peroxide is a whitener and will do so as long as it is wet.
