Special Cases: Extreme caution

  • Marker pen or ballpoint pen stains may be blotted after spraying with hair spray. Rinse well with water afterward.
  • Grease and oil may be adsorbed with talcum powder, cornmeal, or cornstarch. Let stand for at least 6 hours, then brush and vacuum out. Follow with solvent if needed.
  • Red wine may be flushed with club soda prior to ammonia water use.

 

A=Ammonia, one tablespoon per cup of water.
Always use before any detergent solution is
employed.

D/W= Detergent, one half teaspoon
dishwashing detergent in a quart of water, always
followed up with plain water to remove residual
detergent.

S=Solvent; a nonflammable degreaser such as
Energine, Carbona, or K2R.

V=Vinegar; 1:1 mix with water

F=Freeze with ice or ice/salt in a waterproof bag,
then break up with a blunt object and promptly
vacuum.
